At Flint Hills Barns and Buildings Co., we believe buying a barn, shelter, or outdoor structure should be straightforward.

We’re a Kansas-based company with roots in rural life, so we understand that a building is rarely just another purchase. It may be where you protect your animals, store the equipment you depend on, build your business, or finally create the workshop or extra space your family has needed for years.

That understanding is why I started Flint Hills Barns and Buildings Co.

My goal is simple: to connect homeowners, farmers, ranchers, and rural property owners across America with quality buildings from trusted manufacturers—and make the entire process easier to understand.

Why We Started Flint Hills Barns

When my wife and I bought our ranch in the Flint Hills of Kansas, one of the things we fell in love with was the old barn standing on the property.


More than a century old, it had clearly seen a lot of life. We hoped to restore it and put it back to work, but years of neglect had taken their toll. We quickly learned that bringing it back would be a much larger project than we had imagined.

But our animals still needed shelter.

So we began looking for other options—and discovered how surprisingly difficult it could be to shop for barns, shelters, sheds, and other structures online. Products were scattered among manufacturers and dealers, specifications weren't always easy to understand, and figuring out shipping and what would actually work on our property often created more questions than answers.

That experience planted the seed for Flint Hills Barns & Buildings Co.

We wanted to create the kind of place we had been looking for ourselves: somewhere farmers, ranchers, homeowners, and property owners could compare practical building solutions in one place and still have a real person available when questions came up.

Meet the Owner

Who Is Bobby Payne?

I'm Bobby Payne, owner of Flint Hills Barns and Buildings Co. Before starting FHBB, I spent six years in the Army National Guard and another six years in the U.S. Navy, where I served as an Electronics Technician Second Class aboard a guided-missile frigate. I also earned a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering.

I went from maintaining mission-critical Navy systems to spending twenty years as a field service engineer troubleshooting and repairing lifesaving MRI and CT medical imaging equipment. The equipment changed, but the responsibility did not: understand the whole system, diagnose the problem correctly, and help the people depending on it.

That path taught me to slow down, ask the right questions, and understand the full situation before recommending a solution. I bring the same approach to buildings. Size and price matter, but so do site access, wind and snow requirements, unloading, installation, anchoring, permits, and what the structure needs to do every day after delivery.

I've always loved computers and gaming. These days, when I'm not working, you'll usually find me on our Kansas horse ranch spending time with the animals. My favorite is Helios, or Leo, a 17-hand Belgian draft horse and a true gentle giant. Living with horses and livestock means these are not abstract product categories to me. A shelter has to work for the animals, equipment, land, and people who depend on it.

When a question needs a real person, you're talking with me. My job is not to pressure you into the biggest building. It is to help you understand the choices, avoid expensive surprises, and make a clear, confident decision.

We're still working toward restoring this old barn. In the meantime, it serves as a daily reminder of why Flint Hills Barns exists.
